4 ways to help the planet from your home

1. save water! Saving water is a fairly simple task. All you need to do is change a few everyday practices. Some of the most important points are: reducing shower times and checking for water leaks at home. Making use of rainwater and reusing water from the washing machine are also great tips!

2. Save energy. To save energy, it's important to remember to switch on only the electrical appliances you need. When using the computer, for example, you don't need to switch on the television. Another important point is to check if the lights are on when you leave the room and, if so, switch them off. Reducing shower times is also an important energy-saving tip.

3. Always dispose of rubbish correctly. Disposing of rubbish properly prevents pollution and even the spread of disease. By throwing rubbish in a vacant lot, for example, you could be contributing to an increase in the population of rats, cockroaches and even dengue mosquitoes.

4. Recycle your rubbish. This measure avoids unnecessary waste of natural resources and also helps to reduce the concentration of rubbish in the environment.

5. Preserve native vegetation and watercourses. By avoiding deforestation and altering watercourses, for example, we are helping to maintain biodiversity. Remember that watercourses and places with preserved vegetation are home to several important species.

6. Only use vehicles when necessary. Cars are responsible for releasing a large amount of pollutants into the atmosphere, so restricting their use is important. If your destination is nearby, why not walk? It's important to remember that people who own a car should always have it serviced to avoid releasing more pollutants.

7. Avoid consumerism. The key to this point is to always ask: ‘Do I really need this?’ Sometimes we buy things we don't need at the time and thus contribute to the intensive use of natural resources.

8. Whenever possible, opt for organic food. By choosing organic food (free from pesticides), we are not only protecting our health, but also the environment, which is free from these products.

9. Don't buy or sell wild animals. Animal trafficking is a serious global problem that directly affects a region's biodiversity and can even drive species to extinction.

10. Inform others. Ensuring a healthy environment is a task for all of us and it is therefore essential that information is passed on to all levels of the population. Today's children, for example, will suffer the most from the consequences of man's negative impact on nature, so they must be informed about ways to reverse this situation.’
