Lying and liars! | |
Question: What does the Bible say about lying and deceit? There are many verses, but a few follow: Psalm 101:7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. [Easy to understand]. Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: Proverbs 6:17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, [These are just three of the seven. It's amazing how lying and shedding innocent blood are addressed in the same verse. Remind you of any recent topics? Abortion maybe]? John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. [Who is the father of lies and liars]? Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [Who deceives the whole world]? Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. [There won't be any liars in the eternity; among others]. Some of the other many pertinent verses on lying and deceit: Exodus 20:16; Leviticus 19:11; Numbers 23:19; Psalm 34:13, 58:3; Proverbs 12:19, 12:22, 19:9, 24:28. God can't lie or go back on His word like some humans do! Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Psalm 89:35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. Psalm 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Isaiah 14:24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. [Do you need to know any more than this? Read the next verse also]. John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth [This is Jesus speaking]. It is apparent what God thinks about lying, liars and deceit. I just wanted to connect the dots and get a better picture of what is happening today. Is this any reason to be afraid? Not at all; God is in control. He tells us in many ways and in many places, “fear not”. Put 100% of your trust in Him and Him alone; do not put 100% of your trust in a human. Seek truth from God; He cannot lie like humans can! Continue to study your Bibles cover to cover. Learn what is in there. | |
