Why did He die? | |
Why did Christ die on the cross? To defeat death! Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (One of Satan’s names is death)! Death is a stark, and sometimes dark reminder that we live in a fallen world. Most of us have faced the reality of death through the loss of a loved one or dear friend. Eventually we will face it ourselves. Death is inevitable; we were born to die. We have made attempts to forestall death. Medical science advancements have resulted in cures for many diseases that in earlier human history led to the death of thousands. We are grateful for these advances, but in the long run, all attempts to avert death will fail. That is, except one. Through Christ’s resurrection, all enemies of the Lord have been defeated thoroughly, including the greatest enemy of all, death. This is good news! O grave, where is thy victory? 1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord 2 Corinthians 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. (We all face this. Each person is | |
